Rep. Cary Condotta was recently presented the Guardian of Small Business Award by the National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB). The award is based on 10 key votes taken in the Washington House of Representatives during the 2011-12 legislative sessions. Condotta scored 100 percent for small businesses.
“Rep. Condotta has been a small business owner for many years. He knows the challenges and obstacles facing employers,” said Patrick Connor, state director of NFIB. “He understands what needs to be done to improve our state’s business climate and promote private-sector job growth.”
Condotta was in the motorsports industry for more than 28 years, and his wife currently owns and operates a restaurant.
“Between running my business over the years and seeing firsthand the rules, regulations and the ever increasing business licensing fees my wife deals with, it is easy to understand why small business is struggling in Washington,” said Condotta, R-East Wenatchee. “We need to be able to give the private sector some certainty and stability that would allow them to invest or expand their business. An employer-friendly state is an employee-friendly state as it gets people working again. Obviously increased employment improves the state’s fiscal situation too.”
Condotta lead the charge for House Republicans in 2011 on the reforms to the workers’ compensation and unemployment insurance systems.
“While we made small gains in 2011 in those areas, we still have a lot of work to do to make Washington a great state to do business,” said Condotta.
