In recognition of his work on issues that help our state’s small businesses, Rep. Hans Zeiger received the “Guardian of Small Business Award” from the National Federation of Independent Business. State lawmakers were graded on 10 key votes they took over the two-year legislative cycle. Members with an 80 percent voting record to support small-business owners received the award. Zeiger scored 100 percent.
“We have a lot of work to do to make our state small business-friendly,” said Zeiger, R-Puyallup. “I look forward to continuing to work with people in both parties to get Washington working again.”
State Director of NFIB, Patrick Connor commended Zeiger for his support and standing strong to improve the business climate in Washington.
“Our Guardians of Small Business fought for free enterprise in the face of sometimes hostile opposition and took tough votes because they knew it was the right thing to do for the job creators in their district and across the state,” said Connor. “If we are going to restore our state’s economy and put people back to work, we need more legislators like Rep. Zeiger to become Guardians of Small Business, to give job creators the power and freedom to grow, hire and succeed.”
NFIB has 8,000 member small business owners in Washington state. Small businesses represent about 96 percent of all registered businesses in Washington. They paid almost $800 million in B&O taxes in 2009.
